Save the Forests to Save the Planet

If the forests will be blind foldly being cut for further coming years then of course the valuable products that forests provide us, won’t be available for a longer period of time. Forests are a Mother Nature gift that not only gives survival conditions, home to wildlife but also is a source of timber, fuel etc. Moreover, this fact can also be not denied that forest need to be cut for increasing industrial and population growth. Taken into consideration, forests need to be managed so that present as well as futures demands can be fulfilled. For that we Global Forest Resources focus on forestry which is the art of managing, creating, conserving and repairing the forests through numerous methods. These are as follows –

  • Silviculture - It is the science of managing the forest vegetation by controlling tree stand, growth, composition, quality etc. for the forest resource. It is further divided into two classes: -
  • Regeneration method - In this method, young and new stands of tree seedlings are established.
  • Intermediate method - Here the composition, health and density of the retained leaves of the trees are modified for stand development through cuttings made during the development of the forest that is from reproduction stage to maturity.
  • Protection - This includes protection of stands from insects, fire, fungi, animals and from any type of natural disturbance.
  • Natural regeneration - In this method, single or many trees are taken at a time whose timber has to be cut and gaps are left in between them so that replacements can be grown from natural seedlings with the best possible use of soil, sunlight and space.
  • Artificial regeneration - It is accomplished by planting seedlings or by planting the seeds directly.

Forests in addition to wood products also furnish various amenities and ecosystem services. Therefore, it becomes utmost important to manage it. Different forestland owners serve different objectives for the forest resources they own. For example - Industrial and private owners may want watershed protection, wildlife habitat, forage for grazing animals. Similarly, public lands can be used as a multipurpose land for timber production. We are involved in Forest management to fulfil various objectives like social, cultural, economic etc. by planning and implementing practices for the use of forests. In order to sustain the ecosystem and evaluate the use of timber, we do Forest inventory in which the data and forest information is collected for further analysis as type, number, products, climate of trees are estimated on this basis only.
